Further to the sucessful design, Part VIII consultation and construction of the Phase 1 section of the Dunmore Road Greenroute in 2009, DBFL Consulting Engineers were retained and commissioned in 2014 to undertake the preliminary design for the Phase 3 section of a Green Route (route where ‘green’ modes of transport get priority) on the Dunmore Road corridor as located to the east of Waterford City Centre.
The Phase 3 section of the Greenroute is a 1.2km route is currently the missiing link connecting the completed Phase 1 (to the west) and Phase 2 (to the east) Greenroute sections of the R683 Dunmore Road corridor. The Dunmore Road corridor is one of the busiest commutor routes serving the city centre inaddition to providing access to University Hospital Waterford.
The design brief sought to maximise the level of priority afforded to public transport services and cyclists, enhancing safety levels for pedestrains, whilst retaining the unique ’emergency’ access requirements at University Hospital Waterford.
