Mount St Annes Milltown
An award-winning development of 665 apartments and houses in Milltown, Mount St Anne’s comprises a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bed apartments, family dwellings in 2 and 3 storey terraces and courtyard housing. The original Victorian convent buildings were altered and extended to provide residential accommodation.
An innovative prefabricated concrete structural system was designed by DBFL in conjunction with O’Mahony Pike Architects. Above the reinforced concrete basement and ground floor transfer slab the superstructure comprised solid precast concrete elements for party and core walls with precast concrete edge beams providing the structural support for the external elevations.
The external skin of the buildings consisted of non-structural precast concrete panels supported on the edge beams with a studwork internal leaf. The floors were precast concrete wide slab units. This structural solution facilitated a radically accelerated construction programme and ensured enhanced quality throughout the buildings.
