Research Hub TCD
Trinity College Dublin
The Research Hub TCD project required the refurbishment and alterations to an existing 1980’s five-storey concrete-framed office building for Trinity College Dublin.
DBFL’s work involved the structural assessment of the fire resistance of the existing concrete frame with supervision of remedial works required which included spray coating the underside of existing T beams with a vermiculite product. The total area is 4,000 sqm.
As part of the upgrading works DBFL designed alterations carried out to the structure to form a new glazed façade facing out onto South Leinster Street. The structural alterations also included new concrete steps, disabled access platform lift and a steelwork canopy to the front entrance.
Similarly to the rear entrance, new concrete steps and a disabled access ramp were installed with significant work required to accommodate existing services/vaults below ground in the rear yard.
The building is now the Department of Clinical Speech & Language Studies in Trinity College Dublin, and also provides student counselling services.
