Southgate Shopping Centre
This 54,000 sqm mixed use development just outside Drogheda delivered commercial, retail and residential units plus significant external infrastructure upgrades.
The Southgate Shopping Centre development includes a 5,000sqm anchor store, 24 individual retail units, offices, medical centre, gym, 65 residential units and 600 underground car spaces.
The challenge for the scheme was to provide a structure which provided the maximum flexibility for the operation of the development once complete.
Furthermore, it was a requirement of the client to provide few obstructions for parking in the basement. As a result, a 7.5m x 16m column grid was adopted. To achieve this, the structural solution was a ground floor transfer structure consisting of 1300mm deep reinforced concrete beams and precast concrete floors supporting a concrete frame about the main development and a steel frame to the anchor store.
