DBFL Consulting Engineers (DBFL) were commissioned by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council & the NTA to undertake a review of the existing Taney Cross junction layout in Dundrum, including adjoining junctions and approaches, and to propose measures to improve operational efficiency and safety at this key node.
The scheme comprised of detailed site audits to identify problems associated with the current configuration for all road users and significant traffic modelling.
A PARAMICs S Model was constructed of the existing Taney Cross Junction to simulate the existing operational traffic conditions. A future model was also produced to assess the impact of proposed junction alterations. The visual outputs from the models were used to present findings to local representatives as well as the client and the NTA.
The PARAMICs model was supplemented by TRANSYT modelling to determine the optimum traffic signal staging plan to be implemented.
