Dunkettle to Carrigtwohill Pedestrian & Cycle Scheme Phase 4b
The Dunkettle to Carrigtwohill Pedestrian & Cycle Scheme reached a significant milestone with the substantial completion of Phase 4b in late 2024. This phase delivers a high-quality, 4m-wide, 1.8km pedestrian and cycle path linking the Fota Retail Village and Carrigtwohill IDA Business Park to the western side of Carrigtwohill Town.
Phase 4b builds on previously completed sections extending from Bury’s Bridge/Gaelscoil Uí Drisceoil along the L3004 to beyond the Elm Tree in Glounthaune. DBFL provided detailed design, procurement, and construction stage services for this phase and continues to support Cork County Council on the remaining sections, including the proposed pedestrian and cycle footbridge at Killacloyne/Killahora over the Cork–Midleton railway line — a crucial link for the overall scheme.
The delivery of the project in full will establish a key part of the proposed interurban cycling and pedestrian route from the Dunkettle Interchange to Midleton as outlined in the Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy.
