Skibbereen Safe Routes to School
Great to see the Skibbereen Safe Routes to School project, developed by Cork County Council, featured on RTE CountryWide recently.
DBFL has worked with Cork County Council on the project from the earliest concepts through detailed design, tender and construction, helping to create safer and more accessible routes for children walking, wheeling and cycling to school.
The design goes beyond movement alone. Nature-based drainage solutions have been incorporated into the school zone to support placemaking, air quality and biodiversity, while also offering an educational benefit for the school.
The feature also highlighted the Skibbereen Cycle Bus, showing the real impact that safer infrastructure can have in making active travel a practical and enjoyable part of the school day.
A great example of how investment in these safer routes to school can make the journey to school child-friendly, easier and more enjoyable, while creating a better environment for the wider community.
