This week saw the official opening of Phase 2 of the Ulster Canal Restoration, by the Taoiseach, Simon Harris. DBFL were part of the Design Build Team on this key piece of cross-border infrastructure, working with Jons Civil Engineering Company Ltd Engineering Limited, on behalf of Waterways Ireland. DBFL provided full engineering design services including the detailed design of nearly 1km of new canal, a new 42-berth marina at Clones, an inverted siphon of the River Lacky with canal aqueduct over, 2 new stone arch access bridges, restoration of an existing stone arch bridge, ground improvement works, new amenity building, car park and landscaping, as well as approx. 1.5km of new walking and cycling trails along the canal between Clones and Clonfad. It was a fantastic collaborative effort by all involved as part of the design and delivery team including Jons Civil Engineering Company Ltd,Darmody Architecture, Belton Consulting Engineers, AGL, Cunnane Stratton Reynolds.
