Chapel Road Improvement Scheme

26 January 2026

Progress continues on the Delgany to Blacklion Chapel Road Improvement Scheme, with DBFL providing Civil, Transportation and ER engineering services for this locally focused infrastructure project. Section 1 is now fully open to two-way traffic, marking an important milestone in the delivery of improved connectivity and safer travel for the area.
Section 1 extends from the Convent Road Roundabout to Eastmount and restores a key connection for residents, schools and local businesses, while delivering meaningful improvements in road safety, accessibility, cycle & pedestrian facilities and overall journey quality. The completed works include over 1,000 square metres of new concrete footpath to enhance pedestrian movement, alongside more than 3 kilometres of newly installed service ducting to support future infrastructure requirements.

Delivered by Coffey in collaboration with Wicklow County Council, the opening of Section 1 represents a positive step in improving everyday journeys through Delgany and Blacklion. Elsewhere on the scheme, accommodation works in Section 2 are progressing well, with nearly 4 kilometres of additional ducting installed to date, along with approximately 350 metres of new drainage. The wider project will continue in phases through to mid-2026, maintaining a strong focus on active travel, safety and long-term benefit for the local community.
