Peter McVerry Trust Building
Great to see the completion of construction works at the Peter McVerry Trust Building on 180-187 Townsend Street. This important renewal project transforms a long-vacant residential block into a modern, accessible and socially impactful housing development.
Once in a severe state of disrepair, the building has now been structurally upgraded to meet current building regulations and will provide 20No. one-bedroom residential units, with lift access to all floors. Original concrete filler joist flooring and timber roof trusses were sympathetically repaired and strengthened where required. The erection of a series of steelwork picture frames supporting the existing loadbearing rear façade along with the construction of a single storey extension, facilitated the open plan living space of the ground floor units and rear access circulation areas.
One of Dublin’s first purpose-built flat complexes built by the then Dublin Corporation, this development now delivers high-quality social housing for people impacted by homelessness in partnership with Dublin City Council. Its completion will contribute positively to the rejuvenation of this streetscape in Dublin city centre.
