Pledge to Net Zero – Thought Leadership 2026
As part of our commitment to the ACEI Pledge to Net Zero campaign, DBFL have published our fourth Thought Leadership piece on our approach to the adaptive re-use of buildings, focussing on three showcase projects DBFL have been centrally involved in.
Adaptive re-use plays a critical role in development by extending the life of existing buildings and reducing the environmental impact associated with demolition and new construction. By re-purposing structures – whether institutional buildings such as the old Central Bank, historic residential buildings, or a 1960s office block – as designers and engineers we can significantly cut down on waste, conserve raw materials, and lower embodied carbon. This approach aligns closely with DBFL’s mission of Engineering Sustainable Futures.

With regard to our emissions, we are happy to report a significant drop of 13 t CO² e. Our overall emissions for 2025 are 148.66 t CO² e. This is well below our 2030 target of 163.3 13 t CO² e. We can attribute the reduction in our emissions to our staff utilising EV’s over ICE vehicles. The growth of the EV charging network throughout the country has aided this as staff have more confidence on ability to charge cars on longer trips. This is the first year we have had a quantifiable figure of 0.11 t CO² e in relation to offsite EV charging. We remain committed to further sustainable improvements across our business in 2026 and beyond.
