DBFL were appointed in 2019, by South Dublin County Council on the N81 Cycle Scheme – Fortunestown and Killinarden Junctions: Road safety and cycle infrastructure scheme that involved the construction of off-road cycle tracks, realignment of existing junctions, construction of new footpaths, significant landscaping works, drainage design, public lighting design, bus stop and signalised junction upgrades along the N81 at Jobstown.

The scheme has provided high quality, fully connected and safe walking and cycling facilities on this 600 metre section of the N81.  During the scheme development, previous landscaping and cycle track proposals for the area were taken into consideration.

DBFL worked closely with our specialist landscape architect partners to ensure the public realm enhancements, landscape design and transport elements of the scheme came together and delivered on the creative vision of South Dublin County Council as envisaged under the Part 8 for the schemes. Key elements of the design were the upgrade of existing bus stops along the N81 in the vicinity of the junction with Fortunestown Road which is seen as strategic interchange location. Cycle parking, seating and public realm enhancements are proposed in addition to new bus shelters & RTPI to increase the attractiveness of public transport and to promote interchange between the active modes.
