DBFL's Role Transport Engineers
Location Waterford, Co. Waterford
Status Completed

Client: Waterford City & County Council

DBFL were responsible for the preliminary / detailed design of the initial Phase 1 (15km) and subsequent Phase 2 works (7km) on two separate Green Routes in Waterford City, namely the R680 Corridor and the R683 Dunmore Road Corridor. The Green Routes concept seeks to instigate travel behavior change along these key commuter corridors by way of promoting the use of greener transport modes such as the bus, cycling, and walking through the provision of dedicated infrastructure and associated management and regulatory measures.

Project Overview

In order to inform the initial option development exercises and the subsequent Part VIII planning process, a comprehensive network modelling exercise was undertaken utilizing both Paramics traffic simulation software and TRANSYT junction software.

The Paramics software was employed to investigate the area wide implications of the scheme options allowing for the reassignment of traffic from one street to another to be taken accounted for, whilst the TRANSYT junction software was used to simulate both enhanced and new traffic signal controlled junction arrangements. The optimized staging and associated timings from the TRANSYT models were also input into the Paramics software to ensure the micro-simulation software accurately models the scheme proposals.
