DBFL Innovation Team Awards

19 March 2026

Last Friday we celebrated the end of DBFL Green Week with the annual DBFL Team Awards. Seven teams presented projects showing major advancements in Sustainability, the theme of this year’s awards. Presentations covered adaptive re-use of structures as well as innovative sustainable advances in infrastructure, active travel and civil engineering. Such was the high quality of the entries, the judges’ job proved difficult and they selected two projects as joint winners.

The structures team on the refurbishment of 180 – 187 Townsend Street, Dublin 2, for the Peter McVerry Trust, emerged as one winner. The team adopted a ‘maximum retention and minimum intervention’ principle to achieve the successful repair and renewal of this four-storey historic residential building on Townsend St, dating back to the 1800s.

Winning alongside them was our Cork transport planning team for their work on the Blackpool Kilbarry Urban Framework Plan which develops active travel and public transport while encouraging biodiversity and creating interconnectivity in a growing townland.

The effort put in by all teams was impressive and it was a great way to end our Green Week on a high with a reinforcement of DBFL’s ongoing commitment to Engineering Sustainable Futures.
