N81 Hollywood Cross Road Safety Improvement Scheme

05 May 2026

DBFL were delighted to recently attend the official opening of the N81 Hollywood Cross Road Safety Improvement Scheme. The scheme, located at the junction of the N81 and the R756 in Hollywood Village, delivers a range of targeted traffic calming and safety measures designed to improve conditions for all road users on the N81 National Secondary Route. Works included new footpaths and pedestrian crossing facilities, upgraded junction layouts, dedicated bus stops, public lighting, drainage works, pavement rehabilitation, accommodation works and landscaping, together with signage and gateway features to reinforce speed management through the village.

The scheme aligns with TII’s Rural Traffic Calming initiative and aims to reduce speeds along the N81 on approach and through Hollywood. Previous surveys undertaken here had shown high speeds and serious safety concerns with lack of footpaths and safe crossing facilities most notable.

The completed scheme enhances connectivity within Hollywood and provides safer pedestrian movement between local amenities such as Hollywood GAA and the village.
DBFL were involved throughout the full project lifecycle, from feasibility & option stage, preliminary design and planning, through detailed design, tender and construction. During the construction phase, DBFL provided Employer’s Representative and Resident Engineering Services, supporting Wicklow County Council in the successful delivery of the works. The scheme was constructed by Glas Civil Engineering Ltd.
