Clongowes Swimming Pool

The project consisted of the construction of a new 25m by 5 lane swimming pool as the second phase of the Sports Facility at Clongowes Wood College.

The building comprises a plantroom at basement level, Pool Hall, hydrotherapy pool, changing rooms and ancillary accommodation at ground level. The first floor comprises gym and classroom areas, viewing gallery in the Pool Hall and external terrace area. There is a small area of second floor which houses services and the plantroom.

In terms of structure, the basement and Pool Hall are formed in waterproofed reinforced concrete, the superstructure in reinforced concrete walls and columns, and the ground and first floor of in-situ concrete slab construction. The roof over the Pool Hall comprises 2 No. 30m long glulam beams with steel purlins and pressed metal decking over.

Civil aspects of the project included detailed design of external elements including perimeter road / hardstanding, drainage and associated pumping stations to serve the proposed facility. All works took place in a live campus environment
