DBFL provided civil and structural engineering consultancy services on this multi-site Community Nursing Units PPP development across four locations at Killarney, Athlone, Ardee and Clonmel.

Project Overview

The Killarney development comprises 130 beds over 10,000sqm with a full production kitchen, therapy suites, external spaces and various communal spaces for the residents.

The Athlone Community Nursing Unit is made up of two 25-bed households including single and twin bedrooms, all en-suite creating a person-centred approach focusing on quality of life; providing an environment that reflects the comforts of home. Each household includes a dayroom and sunroom, dining area, break out spaces, activity spaces, quiet rooms, external spaces and staff and nursing areas.

The Ardee Community Nursing Unit is made up of two 25-bed households including single and twin bedrooms, all en-suite.

T he new Clonmel Community Nursing Unit located on the site of the existing HSE Campus in Clonmel. The development is made up of two 25-bed households including single and twin bedrooms, all en-suite.

The delivery programme of the works on each of these four sites was accelerated using off-site fabrication and precast concrete elements to form the superstructures. The scale of off-site construction required extensive co-ordination between all disciplines from the very start of each of these CNU projects.

The use of off-site construction resulted in reduced site generated waste, maintained a high and consistent quality end product and safer working conditions on all sites.

The development comprises of traditional ground bearing strip foundations, insitu concrete rising walls, ground bearing concrete ground floor slabs, precast concrete structural walls and precast concrete hollowcore first floor and roof slabs.
