Citywest Library

07 August 2026

A new chapter is taking shape at Citywest Shopping Centre.

Citywest Library is nearing completion, with the building expected to be ready for fit-out in the coming weeks.

DBFL provided structural engineering services for the revamp and extension works at Citywest Shopping Centre to accommodate the new library. This included the addition of an extra steel-framed storey on top of the existing 2-storey building with new stairs and extended lift cores. All construction work took place within the live environment of the busy shopping centre.

With a gross floor area, including the terrace, of just under 1,700 sqm, the new facility will provide substantial new space for the local community. The extension includes approximately 635 sqm of public library floorspace, together with a west-facing outdoor roof terrace designed to support quiet reading and interactive programming. The completed development will also include a green roof, a Changing Places bathroom and new bicycle parking facilities.

Importantly, the next stage will help shape how the space is ultimately used. Public consultation is planned in advance of the fit-out, helping to ensure the library can build on existing services while creating new opportunities.

We look forward to seeing the building fitted out and brought to life for the local community.
