DBFL Transition Year Programme 2026
Last week, the DBFL Transition Year Programme 2026 saw our largest group of TY students yet take part in a packed 3-day programme, with workshops in-house and site visits to DBFL projects.
Now in its sixth year, our TY Programme offers students an opportunity to spend time with DBFL engineers over three days, learning about the day-to-day challenges of engineering and the possibilities that a career in engineering can offer them. Through a whole range of activities, presentations, quizzes, workshops and site visits, our group of volunteer engineers went above and beyond to share their enthusiasm for a career as a civil, structural or transportation engineer. The students also got further inspiration from The Rediscovery Centre who brought their sustainability workshop to Ormond House.
No surprise that site visits are always a highlight for students. Special thanks to Walls Construction Limited and Park Developments for facilitating the groups’ visit to Murphystown Way in Leopardstown. Thankfully most had a head for heights as they got to see the view from the top of this new 254-unit development, currently under construction.
The final day brought an educational ‘before and after’ walking tour of both Meath Street and Francis Street public realm projects in Dublin city centre, demonstrating the impact that thoughtful design can have on our enjoyment of city-centre streetscapes.
Special thanks in particular to Kate C. of Engineers Ireland for the ongoing support that makes this Engineering Your Future programme possible. We were also delighted to host Marita Reilly when she visited to see for herself what the programme is all about.
Final shout-out to our team of engineers who came together to successfully deliver this engaging programme in the hope of inspiring the engineers of the future.
