Leeson Lane Wins at 2026 RIAI Awards

19 June 2026

We are delighted to see the Leeson Lane Office Development recognised at the 2026 RIAI Awards.

Selected as one of just 24 award-winning projects from 175 entries, Leeson Lane has been commended for its sensitive integration of heritage restoration and contemporary design within Dublin’s historic Georgian core.

DBFL are proud to have provided civil and structural engineering services on this landmark Office of Public Works (OPW) project. The development combines the careful refurbishment of Spruce House, a historic former dispensary, with the construction of a new seven-storey office building, creating a sustainable, flexible and future-focused government workplace in the heart of Dublin.

The project presented a number of complex engineering challenges, including basement construction adjacent to heritage structures, constrained city-centre logistics, and the delivery of innovative structural features such as the striking cantilevered sawtooth staircases. Through close collaboration with the OPW, Duggan Brothers (Contractors) Limited, and the wider design team, these challenges were successfully overcome to deliver a high-quality and energy-efficient building that respects its historic setting while meeting the demands of modern government.

Congratulations to the OPW and all project partners on this well-deserved recognition.
